This is a proposal for a two-day ACRP Insight Event on the Future of Aviation at the Beckman Center. The findings from this event would be used to help develop an ACRP future of aviation research roadmap (please see below for more details). The proposed location was selected due to its closer proximity to key aviation and technology companies and thought leaders who may be interested in planning and/or participating in ...more »
Conduct research to update the state-of-the-science regarding the feasibility of reducing or eliminating noise in communities from aircraft departures, specifically behind the start of takeoff roll, with active noise reduction technology.
Air travel is facing increasing threats to operations and facilities from climate changes, but there is not clear guidance on how airports should prepare. This study would examine the potential impacts and offer guidance on how best to defend against these threats.
There is a potentially a gap between airport capacity (e.g., runways, gates) and the increased capacity brought about by the satellite-based, digital infrastructure being implemented. Identifying the gaps between these two capacities and solutions to fill them will help decision makers be more effective in making wise investment decisions so that future airport and ANSP initiatives to increase capacity are more cost-effective ...more »
Tangible result will result into Capacity Building in term of skilled manpower required in airport industry
Develop alternatives for fly ash for PCC Pavement. Determine more alternatives to utilize, than current standards.
Airports make a lot of investments in community/social/environmental causes, but how does an airport measure the investment to see if it's having an impact? Could it be a trust index or another measurement tool.
Guidance on holisitic master planning that goes beyond just future
facility and infrastructure that includes the sub categories such as IT,
Operations, Security and Maintenance as examples. It would also provide guidance on how to develop a "plan" for the ancillary operating areas and how important components may be rolled into a true master plan
Compilation of case studies and lab research door concrete that reaches 30,000 psi compressive, 4,000 psi flexural strength. Allow Airport industry to benefit from lessons learned in highway applications. Look at rapid placement, plastic failure mode instead of rigid, lower cost, thinner overall pavement section due to ability to spread loads to a wider subgrade area, possible reduced labor and equipment cost and potential ...more »
By understanding what other airports are doing in the very wide subject area of sustainability, it may spur airports to try different means of conserving energy, recycling materials, or otherwise improving its sustainability practices. By looking not only at the practices, but the results, the challenges to implementation, and the costs of implementation, airports will be provided with guidance to improve their practices ...more »
Encouragement of non automobile use to/from and within the airport is important to minimizing traffic and enhancing air quality. While many airports are located within walking distance of airport office parks and employee housing, many airports cannot be accessed by pedestrians and bicyclists. The advent of new technologies like e-scooters and e-bikes is proving very popular in cities and would seem to extend threshold ...more »
The objective of this research is to identify how airports can assist Federal and state law enforcement in combatting human trafficking. By supporting investigation and interdiction of human trafficking occurring in and around their facilities, airports can improve their security posture and the safety of the traveling public, as well as the diverse victims of this under-reported crime. Potential research products would ...more »
