The objective of this research project is to develop more topic-specific in-depth training courses and materials to build upon the courses developed under the 02-61 project to create an “Airport Stormwater 201” curriculum.
The USGS will be releasing the Earthquake Early Warning System for public use in 2018. All airports in the west will need to understand how this will directly impact shutdown of critical infrastructure, alerting to the public and changes in the airport safety systems.
Perform economic, environmental and social benefits analysis of using plant based diet in airports and flights. Industrial meat, poultry, and dairy production has a huge footprint of resource consumption--energy, water, and land. As a result the practice produces air, water and land pollution. The practice also causes human health related deceases. A triple Bottom Line analysis of low carbon plant based food usage ...more »
This research would summarize the best of practices through survey of airports and consultants; evaluate the effectiveness of subsurface drainage configurations by investigating field performance of airport pavements with and without drainage features; quantify the cost and benefits of including subsurface drainage by comparing any potential extension in service-life with increased construction and maintenance costs; ...more »
To create a comprehensive resource for architects, interior designers, engineers and airport operators to help them in selection of these materials for new construction or renovation of existing facilities. The guidebook should also provide guidance to airport operators and designers on how to evaluate life cycle cost implications of selecting different building materials.
To develop a comprehensive resource on the safe handling and cost effective removal of hazardous waste material during airports projects. The report will examine ways to identify the waste, evaluate its impact on environment, construction cost and schedule. The report will augment existing industry standard guidelines established by EPA.
The end result should provide best practices that will enable airports to plan facilities (e.g. Daycare), streamline socioeconomic policies and educational programs.
How can airports set up incubators unit to create a space for innovators to solve airport problems based on challenges placed on them from different departments? Then, using the resulting solution, partner (in terms of equity) with the innovators, help them form companies that the airport would be. Partner on in terms of the laboratory for the solutions, then market to other airports.
Investigate if additional data can be collected by these new survey techniques: Develop preferred practices on how to use emerging mobile technologies to collect passenger level of service information in a minimally invasive manner and investigate if new techniques improve (or impede) passenger response rates. Other topics that could be covered include: using ethnographic data collection techniques to understand passenger ...more »
Develop a spreadsheet tool and user guidebook for airports to quantify the non-energy benefits of SAJF in their region, to enable more accurate and comprehensive benefit-cost analysis for investment and policy decision-making.
Develop a guide for architects, planners and airport operators on planning and designing new low cost carrier (LCC) terminal or converting existing ones to better serve low cost carriers. Supplement existing terminal planning resources and guidelines while identifying key differences between LCC and full service terminals.
To provide a non-proprietary, open source software solution that can be combined with the Volume 2 spreadsheets of ACRP Report 25 to generate building information models.
