Evaluate the potential impacts to airport operations of connected vehicle technologies, including vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications.
The broad applicability of this topic area necessitated that it be split into three, primary operational sub- areas: Airside, Landside, and Terminal . These areas each then encapsulate a list of more narrowly focused topics, which cover the wide array of issues related to the operation of an airport facility.

Blockchain, which is generating a lot of buzz, is a relatively new technology that may significantly impact air travel (i.e., similar to how the internet was a disrupter). Some airports are already planning or deploying blockchain-based applications (e.g., DXB plans to go 'passport free' - https://www.ccn.com/dubai-airport-blockchain-passport/). Airport professionals would benefit from learning about the blockchain, ...more »
The objectives of this research project are to: • Create an electronic resources library – preferably a website. This searchable electronic library should provide an inventory of available publications including the abstracts and index of ACRP research documents and non-ACRP research documents related to airside planning, design and operations. • Recommend a process for keeping the website up-to-date. • Identify which ...more »
Practical, usable, efficient, and fair methods for clarifying use of operational airspace near to the ground
To determine best practices for providing backup transportation within an airport for the following situations:
- Aircraft emergencies, where passengers must deplane an aircraft and be bused to a terminal
- Planned and unplanned outages of alternative intra-airport transportation systems such as trains.
The desirable product should offer best practices on worldwide programs which helps to alleviate homelessness at Airports. It should take into consideration the rights of the homeless and airports, the impact of homelessness on travelers and businesses and the policies of local governments or authorities.
The FAA’s “Vision for Trajectory Based Operations”, Version 2.0 dated September 2017, states that TBO will leverage NextGen improvements to make flight operations more efficient and predictable: “TBO in 2025 depends upon use of improved data sets and greater collaboration between the FAA and its customers to enable better traffic planning and scheduling decisions. Improved data sets reflect access to new data elements, ...more »
The objective of this research is to comprehensively evaluate the effectiveness of Airport Wildlife Hazard Management Plans being funded by FAA and implemented by numerous airports under FAA jurisdiction. Primary suggested lines of inquiry and related products will include: (1) Are Airport WHMPs being fully and properly implemented, (2) Are implemented WHMPs meeting the expectations of sponsoring airports, (3) If expectations ...more »
"The objective of this project is to research best practices focused on managing the resources at airports to optimize the number of runways and taxiways that can be kept open during winter storms. The guidelines should include using process optimization to reduce variation caused by unpredictable weather events and computer simulation analyses to optimize the number of equipment needed, resources required, and optimize ...more »
