The proposed work will be a synthesis of current and previous experiences of airports that have been utilized the federal grants to reduce the emissions levels at their respective areas.
In recent years, there has been an a growing concern regarding emissions of aviation related ultrafine particles (UFPs). This effort would consolidate relevant research regarding aviation and UFP emissions in order to provide useful insight to airports, stakeholders, and the public.
Recent Research and Synthesis studies have investigated airport implementation of air quality and greenhouse gas reduction projects (see 02-76 and S02-20, both in preparation). This research has identified a wide variety of projects and best practices for successful implementation. However, it has also identified gaps in data that require more in-depth study.

GA Airports face a beneficial at the same time potentially costly decisions to support electric aircraft at their airports in the next 2-4 years. This project will equip airports with rigorous guidance to understand the environmental benefits of electric aviation for airports to evaluate when they start to consider investing in electric charging infrastructure.
Electric or Hydrogen aircraft could present long-term sustainable solutions for aviation, but will heavily depend on the ability of airports to coordinate and provide the infrastructure required for their operation. This research will look into such challenges and opportunities.
