Joint construction of asphalt pavements is critical for pavement performance. While some airports will pave their runways in echelon, other techniques can be used to effectively ensure joint performance. This synthesis would provide a state of the practice on joint construction and provide insight for airfields to determine the best options for specifications.
Synthesis of case studies showcasing what has worked well and what has not, to give examples of alignment between airport operators and land use jurisdictions. States might take different approaches from each other, and understanding these differences could be valuable.
Survey of National Association of State Aviation Officials (NASAO) and other aviation groups to ascertain what is done to make land use planning required by communities affected by airports.
Synthesis or toolkit of FAA regulations relative to land use. Such a resource would note any conflicts between FAA requirements and local land use rules and policies.
The purpose of this project is to provide a systematic and comprehensive overview of the current status of adopting passenger loyalty programs by the primary hub airports of the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS).
Airports, especially general aviation, nonhub, and those with geographic terrain issues, have challenges with maintaining the turf and vegetation in and around the airport. The proposed Synthesis would review current airport practices for turf and vegetation management given the various constraints of manpower, equipment, funding, etc.
The profession can benefit from a synthesis and assessment of practices applied at airports and elsewhere.
The synthesis would collect and present best practices developed by airports to protect the public and the airport workers (incl. tenants and stakeholders) from COVID-19. The domain of the study includes the landside (esp. how to ensure consistency between airport and mass transit, TNCs, etc.), the terminal area (incl. the restricted access areas), and the airside (ramp and airfield workers).
To synthesize information on ground transportation fee structures and best practices at other airports, with an emphasis on carbon reduction. This information could be used to support innovative ground transportation fees to reduce carbon, while considering changes in travel patterns, non-aeronautical revenue, and potential social equity issues.
This Synthesis will document the various landside transportation data being gathered at airports, the data collection methods, the interpretation of data, and the application of data in decision-making.
