GA Airports face a beneficial at the same time potentially costly decisions to support electric aircraft at their airports in the next 2-4 years. This project will equip airports with rigorous guidance to understand the environmental benefits of electric aviation for airports to evaluate when they start to consider investing in electric charging infrastructure.
The Guidebook for Environmental Management of PFAS at Airports will provide airport managers with a comprehensive yet practical resource for managing the environmental risks of polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in water, soil, and wastewater at and near the airport.
Energy vectors are a means of transporting and storing energy from place and time of availability to a place and time of utilization. The proposed work aims to address the newly emerging forms of energy vectors to support airport operations' energy needs
This guide would provide information and perspective on airport opportunities for water reuse, at a time of renewed national focus and strategic initiatives supporting considerations and implementation of water reuse. This research would generate targeted information to help airports better understand the financial, environmental, and operational challenges and opportunities for water reuse.
Electric or Hydrogen aircraft could present long-term sustainable solutions for aviation, but will heavily depend on the ability of airports to coordinate and provide the infrastructure required for their operation. This research will look into such challenges and opportunities.
Update the report to provide airports with the latest regulatory requirements, best practices, case studies, etc. for improving environmental management at small airports.
The objective is to update the guidance and software for calculating airport construction emissions in order to:
• Incorporate the latest construction practices and regulatory requirements.
• Calculate emissions through the latest version of MOVES.
• Integrate applicable modifications to ACRP Report 102 and the Airport Construction Emissions Inventory Tool (ACEIT)
Develop a spreadsheet tool and user guidebook for airports to quantify the non-energy benefits of SAJF in their region, to enable more accurate and comprehensive benefit-cost analysis for investment and policy decision-making.
Install and operate a low cost remote tower solution using COTS/FAA approved radar only FOD detection solution (currently in operation at Heathrow) combined with an optical aircraft tail number/aircraft counter system/situational awareness system.
Determine if airport operations can be accurately counted using ADS-B data.
Develop alternatives for fly ash for PCC Pavement. Determine more alternatives to utilize, than current standards.
