Airport Operational Databases (AODB): Benefits to the Airport Stakeholders and Users

Airport operations from the curbside to the airspace are increasingly relying on data. Airport operators and their stakeholders are procuring airport operations suites that do not necessarily talk to each other (even within the same stakeholder/entity). The purpose of the Airport Operational Databases (AODB) is to create an Airport Information Center integrating various operational data for making them available to a... more »

Automated Assistance in the Airports for Special Needs Passengers(3A-SNP)-The use of Indoor Unmanned Vehicles - IUA

Some passengers with special needs are loosing autonomy by using the actual costly and somehow inefficient manual service for reduced mobility passengers. The idea novelty is to suggest an automated solution using either existing airport means or advanced technlogy solutions for providing such a service. The architectural concept of the system is scallable in order to easilly implement any service for any specific need.... more »

Public & consortium blockchain mechanisms are needed to integrate, secure and monetize the data produced by IoT devices

Blockchain technology (e.g., open source Enterprise Ethereum) can be used as a vendor neutral integration layer to secure IoT devices to prevent malicious attacks, enable myriad IoT devices installed at the airports to work together in concert to unlock new value creation between different parties, and reward IoT operators for the value produced by data.

Best Practices for Implementing Effective Airport Biometrics - A Primer

Air traveler volume is rising year over year, placing strain on airport facilities' ability to process passengers efficiently and effectively in an operational footprint constrained by long-term capital investments. Additionally, airports must continuously mitigate against the risk posed by the "insider threat." Biometrics (e.g. fingerprint, facial, iris recognition) have the potential to mitigate these risks, capture... more »

Airport Microgrid Solution Standard Framework

Development of a microgrid standard framework (Technical, Financial, Regulatory, Permitting) solution which can apply to all airports across the country. Due to the complexity of the airports' operation and numbers of stakeholders and decision-makers, this comprehensive solution has not been developed.

Implementation of Project Management Offices (PMO) in US Airports

Project Management Offices (PMOs) are a well-established concept in Project Management literature and they are widespread across much of the private and public sectors. However, the establishment of PMOs (particularly, enterprise PMOs or EPMOs) at US airports – many of which are local government entities – have traditionally lagged behind their contemporaries. Although some PMOs currently exist at US airports, they are... more »

The role of the CDC and other health organizations in airport operations.

Airports need to understand the regulatory implications when developing and implementing plans for COVID-19 and other contagions' response. Further, international and US airports have already deployed technologies and operational plans to deal with public wellness and safety all in an attempt to provide a perceived "clean" environment to the public; which will help accelerate the restart of travel.

Efficacy of Pilot Braking Action Reports to RCAM Using ASTM Standard Definitions

ASTM in concert with the Society of Aircraft Performance and Operations Engineers recently published E3188 - Standard Terminology for Aircraft Braking Performance. Measuring the braking reports from flight crews trained with the new definitions are then mapped to runway conditions and aircraft measurements to create an objective metric for accuracy.

Transportation Emergency Response Application (TERA): Migration Options Beyond 2020 due to Flash End of Life

Many emergency software applications have been developed in Flash, which no longer will be supported by the developer.

The selected research team will focus on developing a technology migration roadmap and working with TRB to identify the key requirements, features, and content of TERA that are vital to preserve, and those which can be redesigned, updated, or omitted entirely.
