Do you have an idea for airport research or a synthesis of practice?

Idea CreatorIf you know an industry-wide problem that could use some attention, enter it into IdeaHub! To share your idea, click on the "Create New Idea" button at the top of the navigation sidebar on the right. You will then be asked to provide some information, including if you think your idea lends itself as a traditional research project or a synthesis of practice, a title, summary, objective, and background to help the industry understand the situation. You can also select tags to draw attention to any cross-cutting topics of your idea.

We conduct two types of studies: research projects and syntheses of practice.

Research Projects—If the objective of your idea is to conduct extensive research to develop guidance, a tool, a database, or best practice, you should add your idea as a RESEARCH PROJECT. (Your proposed research may incidentally involve a synthesis of practice, but that is not its main objective.) Typical budgets for research projects range from $300,000 to $600,000.

You must complete the development of your research idea into a full problem statement by March 20, 2019.

ACRP will begin industry evaluation shortly thereafter.

Left to submit your research idea.

Synthesis Topics—If the objective of your idea is limited to a quick review of current practice, you should enter it as a SYNTHESIS TOPIC. The current budget for a synthesis topic is $45,000. It is important to demonstrate that there is sufficient information on practice to conduct a synthesis.

The deadline for submitting a synthesis topic is September 23, 2019.

The topic selection panel will meet shortly thereafter.

Left to submit your synthesis topic.

Joint Construction for Asphalt Pavements at Airports

Joint construction of asphalt pavements is critical for pavement performance. While some airports will pave their runways in echelon, other techniques can be used to effectively ensure joint performance. This synthesis would provide a state of the practice on joint construction and provide insight for airfields to determine the best options for specifications.
