Synthesis of Current Practice of Airport Renewable Energy Projects In Reserve

The product will be a Synthesis of Practice summarizing how airports have planned, financed, and developed renewable energy projects at Airports. The report will provide the industry examples for how renewable energy projects have been developed and approved consistent with aeronautical uses and grant assurances.

Background (Describe the current situation or problem in the industry, and how your idea would address it.)

Airports are responding to a variety of stakeholders regarding potential environmental impacts of development and operation. Renewable energy is one options that can address concerns regarding the environmental impacts of the airport. The Synthesis Report will provide a comprehensive list of airports that have developed renewable energy projects and identity drivers and financial mechanisms that will be examples for other airports interested in pursuing similar projects.

Approach (Describe in general terms the steps you think are needed to achieve the objective.)

Using an informal list of airport renewable energy projects listed in ACRP Report 141 (October 2014), an updated list if projects would be developed along relevant financial information.

Related Research - List related ACRP and other industry research; describe gaps (see link to Research Roadmaps above), and describe how your idea would address these gaps. This is a critical element of a synthesis topic submission.

ACRP Report 108 described the compatibility of energy projects with airports and airspace. ACRP Report 141 described how renewable energy projects had been developed at projects. ACRP Report 151 describe how airports could develop a business case of renewable energy projects at airports. Since these reports have been produced, many airports have developed renewable energy projects. The Synthesis Report would present the existing status of project development.
