Planning standards for Autonomous Vehicles on Landside Ground Operations In Reserve

Autonomous vehicles (AV)s are soon to be in the traffic mix at airports nationwide dropping-off and picking up passengers. While us "humans" drive through crowded roads and can find the smallest place by the curb to stop and drop-off and pick up pax, can an AV do it?

Do AVs need to have a specific amount of curb space before it pulls in and out?

Do the curb spaces need to communicate with the AVs to indicate spaces available?

Will AVs even be allowed to go to the curb for drop-off and pick-up or they go elsewhere?

How much additional space will be needed to accommodate the AVs for a free flowing operation? etc

Background (Describe the current situation or problem in the industry, and how your idea would address it.)

Many airport are currently developing masterplans. While eVTOLs are getting the traction, where are the road based Autonomous Vehicles (AV)s in the mix? Over years, as vehicular characteristics have evolved, the industry revised standards for curb requirements, traffic flows and marking standards. These are being incorporated in the masterplans.

Objective (What is the desired product or result that will help the airport industry?)

How much additional space and curb will be needed to accommodate the AVs for a free flowing operation? etc

How much more time will be required for the the AVs to drop-off and pick-up ? Will it add to the queue time and length?, etc

The main objective is to develop report and planning standards, best practices, etc. for curbside operations and ground transportation center operations for accommodating AVs.
