General Aviation Airports Runway Length Analysis

A synthesis that would allow a cross the board runway length determination analysis.

Background (Describe the current situation or problem in the industry, and how your idea would address it.)

One of the most important characteristics of an airport is the length of its longest runway: the primary runway length determines the types of aircraft that can use the airport and provides a degree of safety for airport users. A runway extension, therefore, would enhance the utility of many airports. However, resources are scarce, and usually there is no distinct aircraft characteristic database for all aircraft that regular use general aviation airports.

Objective (What is the desired product or result that will help the airport industry?)

Determining how long an airport runway should be is always skewed towards the consultant's analogies as the FAA 150/5325-4B is no that straight forward. This approach is more consistent with the goals of comprehensive airport planning. Evidently it is vital to conduct a synthesis that would allow a cross the board runway length determination analysis.
