Establishing Metrics to Safely Restart Aviation Post COVID-19

ACI and IATA recently issued guidance on restarting the aviation industry post-COVID-19. However, there is currently no single measure that could mitigate all the risks of restarting air travel. ACI and IATA suggest that an effective implementation should be an outcome based and layered approach, and a range of measures as the most effective way of balancing risk mitigation with the need to unlock economies and to enable travel in the immediate term. This research will develop performance and measurable metrics for the proposed ACI and IATA guidance.

Background (Describe the current situation or problem in the industry, and how your idea would address it.)

COVID-19 restart measures should be outcome based, supported by scientific evidence and a robust fact-based risk assessment. a recent ACI IATA publication suggests a process for safely restarting aviation post COVID-19. This project will develop measurable metrics for the process.

Objective (What is the desired product or result that will help the airport industry?)

Development of measurable metrics for the ACI/IATA process to restart the aviation industry post COVID-19.

Cost Estimate and Backup (Provide a cost estimate and support for how you arrived at the estimate.)

$400,000 budget with 12 months to complete.
