Emerging Ground Access Technologies at Airports: A Primer In Reserve

New ways to ride from/to the airport are emerging: micromobility, autonomous and connected vehicles, electric vehicles, Hyperloop, underground electric skates, urban air mobility, etc. Old ways are being recycled and improved, such as (but not limited to) bus rapid transit (BRT), light rail, high speed rail (e.g., Brigthline station at MCO), etc.

Develop a primer on emerging ground access technologies at airports.

Approach (Describe in general terms the steps you think are needed to achieve the objective.)

- Inventory and review of new and emerging modes of transportation (landside).

- Identification of potential issues and opportunities (SWOT-like analysis) when it comes to their integration into the airport environment (e.g., conflict with existing modes, potential revenue losses, limited space available on and around the curbside area, grant assurances).

- Perspectives on the emergence/development of these modes.

- Identification of research needs to go further on this issue (potential research ideas).

Cost Estimate and Backup (Provide a cost estimate and support for how you arrived at the estimate.)

400,000 USD based on comparable ACRP projects.
