Automated Assistance in the Airports for Special Needs Passengers(3A-SNP)-The use of Indoor Unmanned Vehicles - IUA

Some passengers with special needs are loosing autonomy by using the actual costly and somehow inefficient manual service for reduced mobility passengers. The idea novelty is to suggest an automated solution using either existing airport means or advanced technlogy solutions for providing such a service. The architectural concept of the system is scallable in order to easilly implement any service for any specific need. As a proof of concept a prototype of an indoor automated mobility assistance will be designed.

Background (Describe the current situation or problem in the industry, and how your idea would address it.)

The assistance of Passengers with Reduced Mobility (PRM) is ensured in most airports. This service is becoming more and more widespread and used by a percentage of PRM which continues to grow (current growth of 10% to 15% per year). Assistance is provided by one or more companies who manage the mobility issues and the support of the PMR by assigning the tasks to agents in the airport.
This increased demand has led global and local organizations to establish regulations, codes and guides to ensure the reliability of airport assistance. As a matter of fact, pressure is increasing on operators and air carriers who have to comply with heavy administrative and financial constraints imposed by laws and regulations which even include people with hidden disabilities. Hence, the integration of a new automated assistance system for SNPs, becomes a necessity. The suggested solution would considerably reduce the financial and the logistic stress which is on air carriers and operators since the service is online configured by the user and could be automatically provided in the airport. The suggested system should have the following features: Scalable (use existing airport available services for reduced mobility passengers and improve it using advanced technologies), Interoperable (possibility for being integrated to any passengers' management system), reliable, safe and secure (comply with guidance and standards established by ICAO, ACI, ACAA and CTO).
The application used for booking the assistance service would be available for download on the user's mobile phone or on any other personal electronic tablet adapted to his disability. The user can configure by himself the required assistance according to available services in the airport and according to his special needs and capabilities. Once the SNP is at the airport, using the booking id, he could automatically acquire necessary software and/or equipment he asked for.

Objective (What is the desired product or result that will help the airport industry?)

Design a prototype of an airport automated mobility assistance for being integrated to a Universal Platform hosting applications which offer assistance to special needs passengers. The platform should be implementable in a wide range of airports.
